Raised in Tribute:

$653.50

Donations are being accepted on behalf of the family of Edward F. Kalyan Sr., who passed away December 8, 2020.

Prior to his death, Ed had been living with Parkinson's Disease since 2007. He chose to undergo Deep Brain Stimulus surgery in 2014 to give himself a better quality of life. Because he did so, he had increased mobility and did not lose out on opportunities to be with his family and witness milestone events like anniversaries, his son’s wedding, the birth of all his grandchildren, and his other son’s engagement.

He was able to go on some fishing trips with his son, brother, nephews and friends, teach his grandsons how to fish, take an overnight train trip, and travel to different parts of the country and the world. He did not let Parkinson's define him, and completed many of his bucket list items years after he was initially diagnosed.

He and his wife, Sharon, also regularly attended a Parkinson's support group where patients and their families could share stories about their successes and struggles with this disease. It helped them to know that they were not alone in what was happening. Even in the last few years, Ed never complained about his lack of mobility and did his best to stay engaged with his loved ones.

His unexpected death due to complications from COVID-19 is heartbreaking, but we take some comfort in knowing that his struggles have ended. As evident from the photos shown here from 2007 to only a month ago, he lived a rich and full life, surrounded by family and friends.

We, his family, have chosen the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research because it is a cause that is close to our hearts. Their funds and research have made great strides in understanding this disease and go a long way in helping families affected by it. This Foundation has been given a Platinum Seal of Transparency as rated by GuideStar, so we are confident that any donations received in Ed's memory will be used properly.

Thank you for whatever you can donate.

With love,
The Kalyan Family
