Raised in Tribute:
$203.00Nihar Banerjee of Bristol, PA passed away peacefully Friday, October 23, 2020 in his home surrounded by his family after suffering from Parkinson's Disease for 5 years.
Nihar Ranjan Banerjee was born on November 9, 1944 in Mahadebpur, Dhaka, India (present day Bangladesh), the second of four children. After the 1947 partition, Nihar and his family moved to Bhatpara, West Bengal, India where Nihar spent his childhood and early adult life. Because of Nihar’s love of Mathematics and Science, he pursued a degree at University of Calcutta.
As a young adult, Nihar served as a highly revered and inspirational school master (teacher), and later as a telecommunications inspector for the Indian Railways. In 1979, Nihar married Samapti (nee Bhattacharryya), and then immigrated to the United States in 1980 with the intentions of fulfilling the American Dream.
True to any immigrant story, Nihar took any opportunity to provide a good life to his family. Starting as a factory worker in New Jersey, Nihar never lost sight of his passions: the Sciences. While working long hours and raising a family, Nihar went to night school in hopes to venture into the world of Information Technology.
In parallel to his career journey, Nihar and Samapti desired a higher quality of living, and eventually settled into their first dream home in Wayne, NJ. Within this house, they shared many of their most memorable moments with their children, friends, and families. As Nihar’s career progressed, their dreams became larger, and they were able to move into their second dream home in Easton, PA.
In a constant quest for learning and adventure, after retirement in 2008, Nihar pursued a new chapter in his life by opening a check cashing store in South Philadelphia. Though he was not a natural-born businessman, he used this opportunity to spread his wisdom to members of the community and staff by advising them and encouraging them to pursue their dreams. He never lost sight of his ability to inspire and teach all throughout his career.
In his final years, he most enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren, as well as spending time relaxing at his home in India.
Nihar is survived by his devoted wife, Samapti, of 40 years, his daughter, Swati Banerjee and her husband Sibi Joseph of Robbinsville, NJ, his son, Nishan Banerjee of Philadelphia, PA, his three grandchildren, Shaylan, Shyla, and Shayna, and two younger brothers and one older sister.
