John Robert Chatten was born on March 2, 1945 in Pennington, NJ and passed away on August 14, 2020 in Acworth, GA. John attended Newark College of Engineering and immediately began his life-long career with Columbian Chemicals, retiring after 44 years of service. John had many hobbies including precision marksmanship, sailing, motorcycling, windsurfing, woodworking, welding, camping, travel, and other outdoor activities. He was a licensed HAM radio operator. He was known to be able to build or fix literally anything. He was an extremely creative and detailed person. He absolutely adored his sailboats ranging from a racing Hobie Cat to a 32’ Catalina. John was a strong and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. John also cherished his dogs. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one son.
John is survived by his wife Betty of 53 years, his sister Ann Chatten Bryant, his daughter Kim Hembree and her husband Johnny, his son Keith Chatten and his wife Suzanne; granddaughter Mary Collins Garstecki and her husband Patrick, and grandson Hamilton Philips; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
