I noticed very subtle changes in my dexterity and slight tremors in my left hand about 6 years ago. I finally went to a neurologist and was diagnosed with early Parkinson's about 4 years ago. I have been very fortunate inasmuch my symptoms have only shown a slight worsening. I am very fortunate as I enjoy good health ,not including Parkinson's. I also am fortunate that it is I that has been subjected to this stupid disease and not my friends or family.
I had chosen to not come "out of the closet" as I elected not be identified as the guy with Parkinson's. I would rather be known as Bill Shelley, devoted husband and father of 4 , who acts a little strange at times.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $2 billion in high-impact research funded to date.
