He maintained an extensive network of close friendships, many of whom were not aware of his struggle with Parkinson's due to his quiet reserve about his diagnosis. He served as a mentor and coach to many, and family and friends remember him as a source of selfless encouragement and pragmatism, with a gift for storytelling and a knack for nicknaming. He was a passionate fan of the Washington Capitals, Nationals and Redskins. Herb passed away peacefully at home on February 11 at the age of 81, just a few days prior to his birthday.
Herb's support system included his beloved wife, Joan, his daughter Michele and her husband Scott, his son, Michael and his wife Aimee, grandson, Jimmy, granddaughters, Katy, Sydney, Skylar and Fiona, many friends and family who visited, and the wonderful caregivers at Lighthouse Senior Living. He was heartbroken to lose his high school sweetheart, Joan, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage just prior to her passing in the fall of 2019.
Born February 16, 1938, Herb grew up in Catonsville, Maryland before joining the United States Army Reserves. He went on to achieve an Associates’ Degree and an accomplished sales executive in the food industry. He was an active and dedicated member in his church, serving his faith as a lectern and Eucharistic minister during mass and through volunteer visits in the surrounding community.
