I was devastated when my father was diagnosed with Parkinson's. I walked through all of the grief stages more than once. I was angry for him, scared for my mom, I, and my siblings, regretful that I had not spent more time with him and sad when he passed. I am in the medical field and was not idle about his treatment. At first, I was under the delusion that is I could just keep him actively moving, that I could keep the disease at a distance. My father survived with Parkinson's disease for almost 5 years. Unfortunately after a fall, he became a nursing home patient. Due to lack of fluids and infection, he went into renal failure. He passed December 31, 2014! My heart goes out to all of the victims of Parkinson's disease!!! As I learned tonight from one of the Michael J Fox video's, I need to choose happiness. Thank you Michael J. Fox for all you contributions and advocacy about this disease.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today.
