Carolyn Bryant Mazurek, caring wife and mother of two, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2019, surrounded by her family at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose. She was 78.
She was born Carolyn Lee Bryant on November 25, 1941, to Samuel Roy Bryant and Josephine Faith Flannagan in Stuart, Virginia. She graduated from John D. Bassett High School in 1960. She then attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, graduating cum laude in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and extracurricular participation in theater and language clubs.
In 1968, she began a career in computer software support at IBM, starting a long and distinguished tenure that would last more than 45 years. While living in New York City, she met Thaddeus (“Ted”) Mazurek through mutual friends, and they married in 1974. Together, they raised two daughters, Fabrienne (“Brie”) and Cassandra (“Sandi”). In 1992, the family settled in San Jose, California. She retired from IBM in 2014.
Carolyn had a warm, generous, and gregarious spirit, quickly befriending anyone she met. She also had a keen wit and intellect with diverse passions for the humanities, including classical music, books, and art.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband and two daughters in the San Francisco Bay Area; her brother, Beverly Roy Bryant, in Martinsville, Virginia; and her extended family, colleagues, and friends across the country.
There will be a private memorial on Sunday, December 29, in Half Moon Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in her honor.
