Raised in Tribute:
$8434.30On December 21st, 2019 we said goodbye to our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Dennis Thomas. There are so many great memories and moments that we will all remember because Dennis had such a huge role in all of our lives: All of the family get-togethers with MANY bottles of red wine, family road trip vacations where Dad somehow always knew down to the minute how far we were from home, his love of sports, board games, and some very vague, but highly entertaining, movie quotes.
Dennis' life also was absolutely impacted by Parkinson's. For many years he courageously fought this disease with incredible strength and determination. Years ago, he made the unbelievably tough decision to undergo brain surgery for deep brain stimulation as a way to combat the effects of Parkinson's. He had a great team of doctors at Rush that he worked together with to fight this disease with everything he had for as long as possible.
Parkinson's had a major impact on Dennis' life, but it was not the defining impact. His impact and the legacy he created is on our family. All Dennis ever wanted was family time. He was always impossible to buy birthday and Christmas presents for, but especially so as everyone got older, and grand kids came into the picture, he just wanted time with his family. So that's what we did as a family; Bear's games, holidays, birthdays and pool parties, we hung out together as a family and made memories. As we try to move forward from this, we will be doing it together, as a family, because that is the legacy that Dad left for us.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $800 million in high-impact research funded to date.
