Raised in Tribute:
$90.60In loving memory of Joann M D'Amato.
"Sometimes the greatest love is not found in the dramatic scenes that poets and writers immortalize. Often, the greatest manifestations of love are the simple acts of kindness and caring we extend to those we meet along the path of life." - Joseph B. Wirthlin
Joann was not only a gentle soul who was willing to offer love and kindness to any being whom approached her, but a vibrant, brave being who endured many hardships. Despite a long, hard battle with both Parkinson's disease and lung cancer, she continued to fight and to wear her heart on her sleeve. Whether it was a new neighbor looking for a friendly face to turn to, or an animal in need of love and care, she was always there.
Her door was not only open to her family, but all whom needed it. She had her own colony of cats near her home that would come by for dinner and breakfast, and though she may have felt tired and frustrated by her shaking, there was no doubt that she would be outside ensuring the cats had something to eat. During the winter, she would take note of warm shelters outside for the cats to find, and allow them into her home for a warm place to retreat. Additionally, if there were any people in her neighborhood looking for a conversation or a few laughs, her door was open. Only in the midst of night would you ever see her door closed.
Not only did she raise three children, but Joann also pursued extended education. She graduated from both Molloy College and Hofstra University. She completed her education with her Master's Degree in hospital administration shortly before retiring.
June 30, 2017 Joann passed due to complications from lung cancer in addition to Parkinson's disease. She left behind three children and three grandchildren, all who continue to carry her legacy with them daily.
June 30, 2017 will forever be one of the hardest days of our lives. We miss you, we love you, we will always carry you in our hearts, and we will see you again.
