Noriko was a Gift of Love granted to our Planet Earth for 84 years. Our immediate family of 5 Murrays knew her first as "Risa's Mom," when
Paul Griffin was dating Risa, so many milestones back. Noriko would light up many a holiday dinner or summer barbeque with her beautiful smile; artsy clothes and unique jewelry; appreciative listening ear; sweet voice and laughter; and, of course, the splendid, colorful and delicious servings of sushi, sashimi, gyoza, and veggie "boats" and platters she would graciously transport from her Kura Barn kitchen to a host's buffet spread or table. Indeed, when we moved to the North Shore, decades back, her local-legend eatery became our go-to spot for "Japanese" with our clan plus a host of friends from the Cold Spring Harbor school district.
Yes, Noriko was a Gift in and of herself. We have a collection of her graceful, lyrical handmade Christmas cards from over the years. Some of these watercolor and pen creations have been framed and put into bookcases or set out in the living room. Noriko was truly an artist, surrounded by other gifted daughters, son and husband. Their 35 Wells home was aglow with sculpture, woodcrafts, gardening, writing, photography, film, design, culinary immersion, and let us not forget, a big, humane heart for those furry friends in the mix, too.
Noriko, you will me missed immensely, but you have magically left an immense treasure of warm, spirited, durable memories in your wake. Do spread your glints and streams of sunshine (and moonshine) in another part of the Universe now.
