Raised in Tribute:
$603.85Joan Aistrup, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2019, with her husband Jerry Aistrup and other family members by her side. She was 85, and had been suffering from Parkinson's Disease for several years.
Joan was born November 26, 1933 in Dodge City, KS to Adolf and Margaret (Vogel) Stein. She attended St. Anthony Parochial School, Fowler High School, and Sacred Heart College. Joan and Jerry were married on August 25, 1953 and together they raised six children.
Joan operated her own upholstery shop from the 1970s until the 1990s. She was artistic and had a passion for painting, quilting, and gardening. She used her gifts to create beauty all around her. Joan's garden was a lovely, peaceful haven of colors and textures, and a wonderful place to relax on a hot Kansas summer evening. Her expertly crafted quilts and paintings are spread far and wide in the homes of her children.
Joan was a role model of philanthropy and giving back to her community. She served as a volunteer at Holy Name School Library, Winfield Hospice, Winfield Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, and the Winfield Habitat for Humanity. She was committed to her family, giving of her time and energy whenever there was need. In 1994, she and Jerry began what has become a long tradition of family reunions, taking place every two years, so that all the extended family could reconnect and maintain closer bonds.
Joan also loved traveling. She and Jerry traversed the United States, often to see their children and grandchildren, and spent their earlier retirement years participating in Elderhostels. They also traveled abroad to Spain, Denmark, and Japan, among others countries.
Joan was loved by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles Stein. She is survived by her husband, Jerry, her brother Gerald Stein, and six children: Michael (Becky) Aistrup, Patrick Aistrup, Kristi (James) Shea, Joseph (Shelley) Aistrup, SuzAnn (Donald) Rueschhoff, Robb Aistrup (Nicola Payne), her 12 grandchildren, and two great grandsons.
She will be very much missed by friends and family.
