Winn was born in 1938 and he is the Dad to Laurie, Craig, Linda, Clark, Lesley, & Lisa. Winn's father, Harry, died when Winn was just 23, of complications from Parkinson's. Winn worked hard his entire life as college and law school student, a business owner, community leader, Dad and Grandpa. We were all looking forward to happy times during retirement years. When my Dad learned he had Parkinson's at about age 61, we were all heart broken.
We are thankful for the medications that have been developed and helped my Dad keep going. My Dad kept pushing to stay as active as much as he could. Until last summer, Winn still got up on his big John Deere tractor to mow fields, even though we all worried about him. Even with his determination to keep moving, he had to give up things he loved like playing racquetball, and in later years, even cooking.
This disease has to be irradiated from the face of the Earth. It is horribly debilitating and no one should have to suffer with it!
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $800 million in high-impact research funded to date.
