Raised in Tribute:
$390.50Joy Buchfirer was 79 years old, and a strong willed, independent woman. She lost her husband 27 years ago, and soldiered on building a life for herself, becoming a champion for women's issues. She was active in town politics, and with the "League of Women Voters", she worked to combat child sex trafficking and helped administer college scholarships to students in need.
She was a Mom to two wonderful daughters, and "Grammy" to four grandchildren, whom she adored.
Last year she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and began having difficulty being steady on her feet. She fell several times, which necessitated a move to an assisted living facility to have access to 24 hour care. Ultimately her life was cut short by Parkinson's disease, and we join Michael J. Fox's pledge to eradicate this illness.
Joy will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $800 million in high-impact research funded to date.
