Martin Joseph Mc Goldrick
My Father, was an Irish Immigrant who came to United States of America when he was a teenager ( in the 50's) and was asked : Welcome to America, you can live her and work for ten years to get citizenship or join the service and get citizenship in two years. My father joined the Navy and worked on the Aircraft Carrier CV59 . When he left the service he met my mother ( a young Irish immigrant ) living in NY and they Married in 1963.
My Father always wanted to go back to Farming and he moved his new wife ( he lived in NY for 10 years ) back to Ireland ( they were on the ship when they heard John F. Kennedy Jr. was shot, Nov 1963 ) and bought a small property to farm and raise children. He bought land and a small cottage outside Dublin and worked so hard trying to make a living . We had a wonderful country life growing up. I don't know exactly when my father was diagnosed with Parkinson's (80's, we were never officially told )) but we ( 5 Children ) knew something was wrong . His Doctor said he should be in a nursing home when the tremors and his mind were going, but my mother said " we married for better or worse" and refused to put him in a nursing home . She made the Hospital put an air mattress on HIS side of the marital bed, but she still wanted to sleep beside him and when I say she had a few inches of space in the bed to sleep I am serious . This was from (80's to 2000's) My mother did this for years and when my dad couldn't walk/talk/eat she and my mother, brother/sisters got my Dad out of bed every morning and dressed him and sat him on the couch in the living room. My sister is a nurse and helped with the food pump/catheter so we never needed to have a stranger in his home.
My Father passed away peacefully on March 26th, 2004
