$1275.00Verna was born in 1930 in Pennsylvania to German immigrant parents. She was one of 3 children and she grew up in a very humble home with hard working parents. In 1962 she married her sweetheart John Kapes (better known as Jack) and they were married for over 56 years. Verna has two children and she was a stay a home Mom when the children were in school and went back to work as the children reached high school and college.
Verna was known for her clever sense of humor and her quick witted comments. She was a devote Catholic and a kind and generous person. She always gave generously to charities despite her own limited income. She would be honored that donations are going to help Parkinson's patients and research.
Verna was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in the late 1980's however she may have been suffering from it long before that. For her it was a slow progression over the years but she never gave up hope and tried to keep active and move however possible. For over 20 years Jack took care of her at home and even during her stints in and out of nursing homes he remained steadfast in the belief that she would thrive at home under his care and she did. She died on January 22, 2019.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $800 million in high-impact research funded to date.
