Haynes was the father of four, husband to Cornelia, and an Orthopaedic surgeon. He was brilliant, honest, kind, compassionate and an inspiration to his family and friends. He also loved to play golf and was excellent at the game.
During WWII, Haynes spent close to two years with the Army 106th Evacuation Hospital following the 3rd Army under George Patton through France, Germany and into Austria. He never complained about his time in the service and felt it was his duty as an American to be a part of the war effort. While he was overseas, he wrote to Cornelia every day.
Haynes was diagnosed with PD in his late 60s, and participated in research on the disease at the University of Pennsylvania. He died in 1987.
