On November 11, 2017 my beautiful mother, Eileen Fahy, lost her battle with Parkinson's disease. For over 15 years, she fought this insidious disease with tremendous determination, grace, and humor. While her physical strength continuously declined, her true grit never did. As debilitated as she became near the end, she still loved life and looked forward to each day. Her motto was "No matter how bad something seems, always look for the good in it." Her immense inner strength was an inspiration to all. Eileen never gave up hope for a cure for Parkinson's disease, and in her memory, those who loved her carry on that hope.

Eileen was born in Murreagh on the scenic Dingle Peninsula of County Kerry, Ireland in 1929 to the late Patrick and Mary (nee Begley) Moriarty. She emigrated to the United States in 1948 and settled in Chicago where she met and married Nicholas Fahy a native of Galway, Ireland in 1953. Nicholas and Eileen moved to Burbank, Illinois in 1964 to raise their eight children: Marian, Bernadette, Eileen, Patricia, the late Stephen, William, Richard, and Jacqueline. Eileen was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and full time homemaker. She cherished her thirteen grandchildren and loved babysitting and playing games with them. Nothing was more important to her than having family around. She was our anchor, and her greatest wish was for her family to stay close to each other.

Eileen's spirit is now free and lives on in those who loved her so. We are all better persons for having had her love and influence in our lives.
