Raised in Tribute:
$257.50In the days since his passing, it has been a wonderful comfort to have the life of Steven Stinson illuminated through the stories and memories of people who knew and loved him:
As a veteran who proudly served his country, he retired after 26 years in the Army Reserves having achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
As an avid learner on a lifelong quest for knowledge, he completed multiple prestigious degrees, first at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he earned his undergraduate (1969) and law school (1972) degrees. He furthered his subject matter expertise in law and research, earning a Master of Arts in Library Science from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (1977) and McGill University in Montreal, Canada where he earned a Master of Laws in Air & Space Law (1982).
As an accomplished attorney, legal mediator, and insurance expert, he practiced for 43 years across Indiana, Middle Tennessee, and South Florida.
As a devoted community servant and humanitarian, he supported many organizations with his time and efforts, including active involvement in Kiwanis International throughout his lifetime. As a community leader, he served on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Palm Beach County, the Palm Beach County Legal Aid Society, and Leadership Palm Beach County, as well as on the Board of Trustees for the United Methodist Church of the Palm Beaches.
Seeing these numerous facets of our Dad has helped us, his children (Nate and Stephanie) to compose a robust picture of the persona he shared with the world—brilliant, compassionate, dedicated to his community and his country. It makes us all the more proud to be Steve Stinson’s children. We consider ourselves the luckiest of all to have known him, because we also got to see him in his favorite role—as our dad.
Dad had a sharp wit and dry sense of humor; he never met a book he didn’t like; he had a deep love of animals, great and small; he took us each on unforgettable rites of passage to see The Rolling Stones live in concert; and he firmly believed that the best way to celebrate Christmas Day was with a big family trip to the movie theatre. More importantly, our Dad taught us that a life well-lived comes from enjoying the simple pleasures; to confront life’s obstacles with grit and determination; and that investing in people is life’s greatest reward.
In place of flowers, please make a donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in Steve’s memory. As part of these fundraising efforts, Nate and Stephanie have decided to complete the 2026 Walt Disney World Marathon as Team Fox Athletes. Please check back to follow us on our training journey over this next year as we endeavor to see this goal through in honor of our Dad.
The Stinson Family thanks you for honoring Steve’s memory and his legacy of community service.
